Feng Shui in children's rooms - what to consider when choosing colors?
Fengshui can provide good guidance when you want to create rooms with a good feel. And that is exactly what we want for our little ones.
Use muted and restful colors and divide the room
Actually, it goes without saying - muted and restful colors provide good conditions for winding down and restful sleep. And of course this applies to both children and adults. Skin-friendly color tones are also particularly suitable for bedrooms as they create a sense of embrace.
But how do you reconcile that with the fact that the children's room should also function as a stimulating play environment? Children feel good about having bright colors around them when they play, but if an entire room is decorated in such colors it can be difficult to rest in the room. It is best if it is possible to create spaces in the room, so that a part is intended for play and a part for sleep.
Often it is not possible and then you can start from what is visible from the bed. You can also create a boundary with a bed canopy or a curtain so that the sleeping area remains calm even if parts of the room are decorated with more active colors. A bed canopy or equivalent also provides a secure and embracing feeling.
Avoid colors in strong contrast and choose calmer patterns
Various shades of cream and white are excellent for the children's room, but not black and white in combination. Then the contrast becomes too great, which is perceived as too stimulating. Colors that are in strong contrast should be avoided or screened off.
If you want to decorate with wallpaper or patterned textiles - choose patterns that are not too intense in design or color combination. There are an incredible number of beautiful patterns to choose from that are also gentle. Vibrant and colorful patterns are better suited when there is play, and then it can be too much if the room does not have a boundary.
In conclusion it is a good rule of thumb to start from what you yourself are comfortable with in your sleeping environment. What does your dream bedroom look like? Which colors and patterns do you choose to feel calm and harmonious? Chances are pretty good the same is true for your child.
Quite logical when you think about it - right? Just take out the paint brush and get started.
