Scary (and healthy!) snacks for Halloween parties
Time for a children's party with a ghost theme, a Halloween party or an All Saints' Day celebration with your friends? At our house, it was a combination of a birthday party and trick-or-treating on October 31. I love tinkering and tinkering and had the goal of setting up snacks that look fun and spooky and scary, that contain a vitamin or two alongside all the candy AND that the kids actually enjoy :) Everything ended up and the birthday boy thought it was the coolest thing he had seen . I also made a cake from two ready-made scratch cakes which the children loved and which is as easy as pie to fix (you can find it at the very bottom of the post). That is - mission accomplished. Here are descriptions.
Apple zombie - perfect snack for Halloween parties
- Green Apples (1 apple makes 4 monsters)
- In the mouth : Crunchy peanut butter
- Tongue : Strawberries (preferably small, will be the perfect shape on the tongue)
- Teeth : Sunflower seeds
- Sugar eyes - or you have to make your own if, like me, you are late shopping and all the sugar eyes are gone. I found a simple and good recipe for kristyr that worked perfectly, is below.
I quartered the apples and then used a razor blade to cut out a slice for the mouth. Much easier than working with a knife because the razor blade is flexible.
If you make your own eyes, sprinkle small balls of the icing (recipe at the bottom) and then press round sprinkles. It is suggested to be done after you have smeared the peanut butter into the mouth opening. Then cut the strawberries into slices and press into the peanut butter like tongues. Attach some sunflower seeds as teeth. Voilà: scary, disgusting and - delicious!
CARROT pumpkins and cucumber ghosts
Peel one or more carrots and cut two slits on top so that you get a pumpkin shape on the slices. Cut cucumber slices , punch a hole in the middle. Slice, paste or spray your eyes. Clear!
MINI PEPPER PUMPKINS & SWEET SALT SPIDER WEBS
How to make mini pepper pumpkins:
Cut off the tops of the mini peppers and take out any seeds and seed housings. Use a razor blade or similar to cut out the mouth and eyes and then put the lid and "body" together on the dish. (You can probably stick with a little peanut butter or cream cheese, but it worked fine without it.)
Here's how to make a sweet-salty spider web:
Melt white chocolate buttons and pour the melted chocolate into a piping bag. Place one whole and two halved salty sticks on a piece of baking paper so that they form a star and then sprinkle chocolate in the middle so that the sticks stick together and then a spider web pattern between the sticks so that it looks like the picture. Put in the fridge and it hardens quickly. Place small pretend spiders on the web or, for a premium, make your own with black crystal. I took the opportunity to make some skeleton parts from sticks + white chocolate to use as decoration.
RECIPE FOR the world's best ice cream
Ingredients
120 g icing sugar (approx. 2 dl)
35 g egg white (1 pc)
Do this :
Mix together and then beat with an electric beater for 3-4 minutes so that it becomes really fluffy. Place in a piping bag and cut a small hole. Can be stored for a long time in the refrigerator for continued use. Tip stack for brinkenbaker .
finally: quick-fix ghost cake
A cake that works for ghost parties and all other children's parties + actually also adult parties - for those who like chocolate. It turned out really good! If it's not Halloween or a ghost theme, you can decorate with something other than meringue ghosts. If you want, you can of course make it on homemade bottoms, it depends on how much time and energy you have :)
Ingredients :
Two ready-made scratch cakes
200 g good dark chocolate
1.5 dl cream
1 tablespoon butter
Meringues
Ice cream + black sprinkles
Do this :
- Chocolate ganache : Coarsely chop the chocolate. Boil the cream in a pan and remove from the heat. Fold in the chocolate and stir until it melts. Add the butter and stir to a smooth batter. Allow to cool/harden a bit.
- Place a sponge cake on a cake plate, spread about ⅔ of the chocolate batter on top. Place the second cake on top and spread the remaining chocolate batter on top.
- Place in the fridge so that the chocolate batter hardens and the cake "sets".
- I made my own meringues, but of course you can also buy. Spray on eyes in the same way as on the apples and the rest, alternatively attach ready-made sugar eyes or something else that fits.
- Decorate the cake with meringue ghosts and small strawberries or other fruit/berries, maybe sprinkle some icing sugar or cocoa too?
The cake was gone in no time, the kids loved it! I managed to plate the last piece before my husband ate it (including ghosts).
